Emrys Art Mini Open Competition 2010

Many of you have been asking if there will be a competition this year, and we are now pleased to announce yes there will be! We are keeping the mini size, but are changing the painting surface from canvas to watercolour paper.  Entry to this year's competition is £4, for which you get a W&N Cotman Watercolour Postcard Pad and a Reeves Mini Easel (total RRP £4.79).  You can use any painting, drawing or other medium on your postcard paper, and the pad has 15 sheets so you can try a few ideas. John and Margaret from Art Matters have agreed to judge the competition again.  The First Prize is a £250 voucher, with runner up prizes of £100 and £50 vouchers. For children 12-16 there are £50, £25 and £10 vouchers, and for 10 years and under £25, £10 and £5. The deadline is 12th June, so there is plenty of time.  Entries will be shown in the shop windows as they come in, so there's no need to wait until the last minute.

You can get your entry pack by post at £5: send a cheque or phone with a card.

Full details and rules are available from either shop.  We are grateful to Winsor & Newton and Reeves for sponsorship of the competition.

Michael Harding Oil Paints Now In!!

Emrys Art Supplies are pleased to announce that both our shops, and on-line are now stocking Michael Harding Handmade Artists Oil Paint.

Michael Harding Oil Paints are made by hand, using techniques which date back to the Old Masters. The reason for this painstaking process was to create colours that were true and vibrant, and paint which was beautiful and durable. This has been achieved and as a result these paints are used by many leading artists including Sir Howard Hodgkin and David Hockney.

All colours are ground in a grade of refined cold pressed linseed oil chosen for its neutral acidity. There is one exception to this Titanium White No.1. This is ground in refined poppy oil, which is slower drying as driers are not included within the formulation of the range. As well as using traditional pigments this range also makes use of more recent technological breakthroughs in the production of pigments to produce paints of quality that previous generations did not have.
